McMahon-RNT Irish Dance

The McMahon School was started in 2006 by Moira McMahon and planted its feet firmly in Rochester, NY in 2012. In December 2019 the McMahon School joined with Rince Na Tiarna and formed McMahon-RNT. Our dancers compete in local Feiseanna, Regional, National & World level Competitions; and has brought home numerous awards in solo and team dancing for all levels of Irish dance. The McMahon-RNT dancers also perform throughout WNY at various St Patrick Day events, the St Patrick's Day Parade, festivals, parties, schools, fundraisers and community events.

Mary Kay Heneghan, TCRG, ADCRG, BG

Mary Kay Heneghan started Irish dancing at the age of four under the direction of Paul Tynan. Her mother was also an Irish dancer and faithfully brought her to dance classes and promoted Mary Kay’s love of Irish dance. After Paul relocated, Mary Kay finished her years of competing with the Woodgate School. She opened her own school, Rince Na Tiarna, in Erie, Pa. and expanded throughout Western New York starting in 1986 when she took her teachers exam. (She was the first Western New Yorker to receive her Irish Dance teacher certification In 1997, Mary Kay passed her adjudicators exam and has been honored to have judged all over the world, including Australian qualifier, Great Britains, British Nationals as well as North American Dance Championships. In 2000, RNT was the first school in North America to ever win the All Ireland Championships in team dancing. In 2005, Rince Na Tiarna’s Kevinah Dargan won the World Championships, making her the youngest North American to win a world. That same year, Mary Kay was named one of Buffalo’s Top 40 Under 40, as well as one of Irish America Magazines Top 100.

Dancers from RNT have won Worlds, All Irelands, Nationals and Regionals. They have performed on Broadway and London’s Westend in Lord of the Dance. Dancers have also toured with Riverdance throughout the world.
On a non-competitive level, Mary Kay has choreographed dance scenes in movies including “Travelers” starring Mark Wahlberg and Julianna Margolis and her dancers have also appeared on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” as well as “Live with Regis & Kathie Lee”. Mary Kay and her dancers were also one of three featured schools in the reality TV show “The Big Jig” which aired October 2013.

Mary Kay has a master’s degree in Counseling Education from Canisius College.

Rachael Grieco, TCRG

Rachael Grieco, formerly Rachael Harris was born to Irish parents in Birmingham, England and danced for Kevin & Helena McCarron at McCarron School of Irish Dance, she started dancing at the age of 5 and from there grew to consistently place top 5 and top 3 at many major competitions. Some of her proudest and most memorable achievements/titles are British National Champion, 7 time Midland Regional Champion, 2nd at North American Nationals and 4th at World Championships.

After a great competitive career Rachael then went on to tour with the well known show Riverdance, traveling to Japan and Taiwan, she performed the lead role in Irish Thunder and Emerald Beat (created by O’Shea’s) and was both Lead performer and dance captain for Celtic Fyre at Busch Gardens!

In 2013 Rachael took her TCRG exam and passed with honours, and after 10 years of performing decided it was time to set about her dream of teaching, and joined Rince Na Tiarna in 2015.

Rachael is also First Aid, CPR & AED certified by the American Heart Association as of 2018.

Moira McMahon, TCRG, ADCRG

Moira McMahon TCRG, ADCRG, is a product of the world famous Butler Academy of Irish Dance. Moira danced competitively and for exhibition since the age of four. Once the premier dancer of Rochester; she consistently placed in the top 10 at the North American Championships since the age of ten, the top 5 at the Regional Championships, and also qualified seven consecutive years for the World Championships. Moira competed in Ireland for the World Championships in solo dancing. In 2004, Moira became a Certified Irish dance instructor by An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha in Dublin, Ireland. In 2013, Moira achieved her ADCRG diploma making her eligible to adjudicate competitions at any level throughout the world. Moira is registered with An Coimisiun; the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America; and the Irish Dance Teachers Association - Mid-Atlantic Region.
